If this is your first visit, take your time and look around. We have plenty of information and resources available to you. If you are a return visitor, thank you. We would love to hear from you.
Rutherford County is a beautiful place to visit, but an even better place to call home. Located in the foothills of Western NC, we are nestled between the Piedmont’s rolling hills and some of the highest mountains east of the Mississippi. Many come to visit the beauty and experience the tranquility of this area, but end calling it home.
Prestigious golf courses, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock State Park, and beautiful mountain views are among the area’s attractions. The area is best known for its spectacular fall colors, as well as the filming of Dirty Dancing (Lake Lure) and The Last of the Mohicans (Chimney Rock State Park).
The most important attribute of the area is the location in a documented Thermal Zone that affords us with a mild 4-season climate.
Centrally located and easily accessible to the cities of Asheville, Charlotte, and Greenville, yet far enough away to maintain that friendly and comforting “down home country” feel, complimented by reasonable property values and taxes.
We encourage you to enjoy our County and the small towns and charming communities of Rutherfordton, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Bostic, Golden Valley, Sunshine, and Ellenboro.
Whether it’s the beach at or boating on Lake Lure, hiking in Chimney Rock State Park, visiting the many historic sites, or just enjoying the views from a log cabin in the mountains there is something for just about everyone!
